Time did me in with this one
Every little tick tocked me into thinking
…hands would be held into aging
Every tock ticked to heartbeats rhyming to heart’s veiled certainty
And every cell in my walled shell
…sang songs filled with “the one”
If only I knew
O
If only I knew
If only I knew this time will arrive
When my very heart will park
…like a train with a broken engine
And my eyes will see filth in its former perfection
I’d have dragged the brag from that wealthy rag
…I thought I’d wear forever
V
If only I knew
If only I knew that a future held shocks
…that will pelt my soul like rocks
…and force me to the stakes of mocks
To force my hand to coil back into my other hand
I’d have snapped out from the trapped-in-reverie
…I languished, and uprooted the fulfillment to see the anxiety
…in anticipation
E.
But I didn’t know
And I thank the bliss in the kiss
… without a diss
For it’d have been an emotional miss
To not know the folly of holding on so tight
…to something easily broken
Only to see the marks
…and to know the joke I was
… laughing at a me too blind to see
…through the deceptive masks
…I could so do without
