BOXES OF LOVE

Remember when I wore body hugging clothes
And you complimented me?
I wore it because I loved how it looked
…in my mirror
Not to please you

II
When you looked at my lips
And loved the red hot lipstick
It was flattering but I did it for me
Because my mirror clapped
…and showed me photographs of a beauty

III
When I wore my heels
And you spoke of my height
Making it seem like that boost perfected me more than my nature
I cared not
Because I wore it to put on a different air
You’ve seen me wear sneakers with that same air of confidence
I wear whatever just for me

IV
So know I wouldn’t school for you
If I know it works not for me
I wouldn’t work for you
If I know it wouldn’t work for me
Oh I wouldn’t travel for you
If I know it wouldn’t work for me
And I certainly will not worship for you
If I know it wouldn’t work for me

V
Love should be you helping me to grow
And me helping you to grow
Love should be you cheering me to glow
And me lighting you to shine
Love should be you loving me in the love of myself
And me loving you to love your very self
Only insecure people bring boxes into their relationships
And ask their partners to fit into them
In a world where wings of freedom fly love
To skies to fetch Cupid clouds
…to compliment care

Just a simple Ghanaian trying to find the best in our society. I may be fun, I may be interesting, I may be funny, I may even be foolish or intelligent, but it is all based on the mood in which you find yourself. I believe our minds make us who we are. Know that, pain, no matter its 'unbearability', is transient. Unburden or delight yourself for a while in my writings please. And all corrections, advice and opinions are welcome. Know that you are the king, queen or royal on this blog. :)
