MOST HIGH GOD

Ye who created nsuwansuwa and everything in it
Ye who created mmepɔ abrane and every weight they have
Ye who created Asaase Yaa and everything it stands for
With knees on ground
…and head in bow
I raise my humble calabash in thanksgiving

II
For you have sent Abosom Apem to guard this humble me
For you have sent ahonhom atumfoɔ to keep watch over this unfitting me
Oh you’ve created an ogya tanaa to protect this queer me
Making night suffocaters scatter
And day shooters fall

III
Many are my shortfalls
Many are my toils
But I now understand it takes many a life’s nsɔhwɛ
To pass a mere being into a great soul
Ototorobonsu eii, nnaase o

IV
When I cast my eyes back to the sorrows of my nnura
And think about the horrors of my mmabaawammerɛ mu
When I think about the blessings of my nɛ
And look into the brightness of my daakye
Many an awisia form on my humble honam
Ɔseadeɛyɔ eeiii
…nnaase nka wo din

V
I now know my scars as agudiɛ
And my pains as ahoboaboa
I now know my hurdles as akyɛdeɛ
And my shame as ahofadeɛ
Forgive me for the many akasa akasa
…and atiitii
…and asomdwan
She who had no eyes
…thought hard her plight
But today, anisɔ is my feeling
Ɔdɔ is my heart’s estate
Ɔseadeɛyɔ-
…nhyira o!

VI
Be my ever banbɔ and shield
Be my ever lead on this field
Help my legs to step on places you’ve ordained
As I submit to all that I know you are
In this short lifetime,
…this short lifetime of mine

Just a simple Ghanaian trying to find the best in our society. I may be fun, I may be interesting, I may be funny, I may even be foolish or intelligent, but it is all based on the mood in which you find yourself. I believe our minds make us who we are. Know that, pain, no matter its 'unbearability', is transient. Unburden or delight yourself for a while in my writings please. And all corrections, advice and opinions are welcome. Know that you are the king, queen or royal on this blog. :)

Beautiful doxology pregnant with great gratitude and praise.

I love the code switching; it does not only clothe the poem with its setting but also evidences the versatility and artistic savvy of the poetess.

You never disappoint, Mum Cee. Kudos!
