THE POETRY DEBATE

1a.
Who says the meaning of poems must hide
…in layers and layers of confusions
Searched for with vague illusions
Hurt brains in mock contusions
…in order to understand?

1b.
Who says a poetic theme must live far in meaning
For thinkers to travel far in fetching
Forcing minds to work hard in stretching
…in order to understand?

1c.
Know that universal poems have many a word gadget
Worked and reworked to fit the many a thinking market

They are genres of their own

1d.
Oh every poem has its own target
Some are meant to be naked
Forcing their targets to see them for them

1f.
Others are meant to be clothed
Living on pages of decorum to be undressed
…by minds that live in clothes

1g.
Others are meant to hide in puzzles
To be chased by exciting minds which love the chase
Of running through cages of knowledge
To find themes that bind

1h.
Others are simply mysteries with branches of themes
Their many meanings come from perspectives
…and never clash
They sit side by side
…complementing each other

1i.
So poetry is not a static art
It has no static class
It is many arts in one with varied audiences
Know this and speak to those that fit you
Never pick a side
Of an art you’ve mastered not
For sane is he who zips his mouth
When higher thinkers step on stages

Just a simple Ghanaian trying to find the best in our society. I may be fun, I may be interesting, I may be funny, I may even be foolish or intelligent, but it is all based on the mood in which you find yourself. I believe our minds make us who we are. Know that, pain, no matter its 'unbearability', is transient. Unburden or delight yourself for a while in my writings please. And all corrections, advice and opinions are welcome. Know that you are the king, queen or royal on this blog. :)

As varied as the poets, the poet’s mood, and the words that need to be said. It shouldn’t be a contest. Folk art is my favorite because it is original, self-arrived, and honest. I’ve always loved your poetry because it is honest and very strong. Fierce. And lately, very sad…the best poetry is words and meaning pulled from the skin and heart of the writer. It’s painful to produce. Even when the meaning isn’t completely clear, reflective words reveal self to the reader. I’m not educated, formally, or too highly, but making crazy things rhyme gives me relief and sanity. It’s late and I’m babbling…but poetry is many things that should never be forced into a box or written to please others.
