THE TREE OF MY HAPPINESS

My happiness is like a tree
With many branches
There is a huge branch which holds the H in my happiness
And represents the love of my life
…the life I’ve been given
There is another huge branch which stands for the A in my happiness
And is my art which is the channel catering to my emotions
There is one P which stands for my guardian
The one person who loved me in my nothingness
And brought me up to be me
There is another P which represents all the helpers I had
There is the “I” which represents my family
The very one I came through
There is the N which stands for my work
…and the joy it brings me
There is an E which stands for my students
…their smiles
…their mischief
…their taunts
…and their love
There is an S which stands for my colleagues
…their help
…their laughter
…the occasional tensions
…and their care
There is another S which stands for traveling
…seeing new places
…having new friends
…and learning new things
This is the tree of my happiness
And the root of this tree is thoughts of survival
Which feeds this tree with strength
And brackets it with protection
Sharing the droughts and clouts and shouts and love
…with the world in ways many a being will take time
…to understand
