I
Know this, in times past
Kwaku Ananse, Ghana
Taught children the right
II
His taunts, jeers, cunning
Mostly nearly made him a
Frankenstein Monster
III
Yet he lived on in
Fresh new episodes brewing
Trickeries and mischiefs
IV
Children loved him? Yes.
Children loathed and feared his taunts
Yet waited for more
V
Yes, by the fireside
They waited to hear from him
To cheer, cry or learn
VI
But now they do hide
Watching their pads and browsing
Chatting, no learning
VII
Urbanization!
Massive intelligence coup!
Please let rurals rule!

RIP Granpa! You’re duly missed. Sorry for your loss and I’m sorry if it makes you miss him so. Thrilled that you still read it though.

I still miss my grandpa. I treasure his lessons, I shared some of them here; https://georgeagak.wordpress.com/2014/12/11/lessons-wuon-omollo/

We have become renegades of the very virtues that made us great…the so called civilization came with a hefty price…and we call it liberation!

The irony of it. Liberation that came to capture our brains into imprisonment. Thank you George for your voice here.

But, let the minds of rurals grow

But Rajiv, though some minds are not grown, most minds are very matured even without education. I believe the discipline was apt and the world then was better. Not to talk of people lived with people and not around people. I would have wished to live there then.

True.. I have been traveling in rural India. Their minds are being conditioned, and it is sad.
