Standing right in front of Susana Ofori-Atta
You see twin tanks feeding the records building
And a single tank threatening to fall
…but still heeding to the thirst call
…of the newborn hall
A staircase opens its arms to the deceptive summer hut
But has a doorknob with rules oh so fat
Many stories hover in front of Emergency
And rumours carry them with efficiency
As they build on eachother
…in ruffling many a feather
Susana Ofori-Atta has her fair share
…of the horrible and the queer
II
She has double a hen deranged
From the torments of men estranged
She has many a pre-mi fighting
To stay in this world with dieting
She has those whose ails dig deep at their hearts
…so young but their will holding the warrior bat
She has the breathless with scared mothers
And the blessed-sick with worried fathers
Yet she acts the sophomore
Innocently sitting and asking for more
With unopenable bathrooms
And shut white houses
III
To bath, costs walks and cedis
To heed nature’s call costs walks and cedis
As good and cranky nurses and doctors hold her together
My seed nebulizes and is fed others through a cannula
As his poor mother looks on, shivering with a worried fever
There must be no repeat, she silently cries
As her worried sick mother constantly lies
…all praying their own is spared the dice
…of death
For he has not lived far from his birth

Dr. Chris, young but bright, is the patient hands
Helping in pushing me to hope lands
