There is an air of change blowing
And I hope it turns into a wind for completion
There are seeds of change being sewn
And I hope they grow into trees to help in our cultural nutrition
This is finally the rain of sanity
And we are all here for it
Ours for us and ours
That is the story in motion
II
Talks and talks and talks won’t do!
It is the era of changing the force into reality!
Amanfoɔ mompene yen mpanyinfo yieɛɛ
Meetings upon meetings upon meetings won’t do
It is the era of togetherness
…as Africa is growing stronger into the force we need
Amanfo mompene yen animdefoɔ yiɛɛɛ
There is a song coming from our past
It started as hums of the wronged
And graduated into words of the wounded
It grew into the can’ts of the bereaved
And was built into the poems of our grandparents
Then it was presented as the chants of our parents
It is now the songs of our youth
And we are singing
…hoping to sculpt our rightful cultures to replace doomed songs famed and forced on us
III
Now I see Nkrumah’s spirit
Sankara’s attitude
…in Ngugi Wa’thiongo’s voice!
I feel Ama Ata Aidoo’s Aura
As we listen to the working voice of Maya Angelo in our African wears
We see the soul of Bessie Head
Oooh I hope we now embrace the can-do spirit of Paul Kagame!
We now dance to the songs of Kofi Anyidoho
And dance to the discipline of Nelson Madiba Mandela
And are forcing to work with the ideas of Lumumba and the many many great others!
IV
So let’s chant and work towards Martin Luther King’s Dream!
Let’s sing to raise mass consciousness
…to fall the castles of our stolen artifacts!
Let’s all help to right the wrongs of our past
Let’s let our languages work for our greater good to write our histories and stop the “his or her stories”
We are A Force Rising In Confident Altitudes
And we are enough!
From our North to our South
We are enough!
From our East to our West
We are enough,
From our Diasporeans to our Founders
We are enough!
From me to you through to us
…We are enough
And can work to own our own stories –
…Our own stories from here on
For restitution to build our institutions
…on solid grounds
To build the heaven we need
In the spirit of Ubuntu which is –
…I am because we are
Long live Africa!
Long live the “ours” we will build into a better Africa
A better Africa for us
