This is the year
The year we’ve seen dawn parading naked at noon
And morn parading nude at night
In months whose days shrunk into hours
…longer than years

This is the year
The year anxieties dance seductively
…in videos of fear on our minds’ screens
As the unknown horn uncertainties
…in our thinking caps

This is the year
The year which erases itself with horrid ink
…to stand out
The year which achieves family bonding
…that other affable years failed to achieve
With fear

IV
This is the year
The year we travel without seeing the rays of the suns from the sky
Only to see them brightly in our rooms
As the moons cuddle stars on our ceilings
With “when will it end” tags
Nauseating some
Annoying some
Frightening some
Enriching some
Paupering some
Defying others

With hidden mouths
And hiding noses
We triumph in our woes
Even as a mythical existence act our foe
We cry
We laugh
We cheer
We hope
We elope
But we still cope

VI
This is the year
The year we’ve found voices for many a voiceless
And won choices for many a discriminated
This is the year
The year which has turned things around
For us to see the worst in our best
And the best in our worst
Promising a graduants of survivors
By reviving our resolves to live
…live each day at a time
