Running after her
Never catching up
In this unpredictable odyssey
When I got closer
Her smile stayed same
But she wilted as I bloomed
Smiling sweat, which now fades, sat on my skin
Like the sun at its peak
Tired sweat cried on her skin
Like the rain whipped by storms
She still led the race
I giggled and followed
Never knowing the hands of change
Tiredness panted
Crying skin bowed its head
Two legs became three
A bright sun blinded
And subsided
I opened my eyes to see her gone
I went faster, and faster and faster
There was no ditch, no river, no sea,
Certainly no signs of volcanoes
There were no animals waiting to devour
Maybe there were perils
Perils that took her,
Perils that were real
Only to more experienced travellers
But maybe those perils are to me; invisible
