FGM, an act of brutality

Crimes of humanity
Sins of the soul
The bloody tears of women
Let the world hear this cry!
Who loves to be deformed?
Who loves to bleed?
Who thinks of having pains?
These are souls scarred forever
Scars which they are forced to like
Scars which they are forced to give
A world like this was not what God craved,
I’m shivering at these thoughts of barbarisms
Let the world wake and shine to drown this darkness
On the skies of women
Female Genetalia Completeneness, I love

Even though the brutal practice of FGM is now illegal in the country in many African tribes, traditions are more important than laws and circumcision is considered a rite of passage that marks their transition into womanhood so they can marry.

Reuter’s photographer Siegfried Modola captured the ceremony in rural Kenya for four teenage girls of the Pokot tribe, in Baringo County.

Draped in animal skin and covered in white paint, the girls squat over large stones in the remote village after being circumcised – a life-threatening custom banned in the country three years ago.

Just a simple Ghanaian trying to find the best in our society. I may be fun, I may be interesting, I may be funny, I may even be foolish or intelligent, but it is all based on the mood in which you find yourself. I believe our minds make us who we are. Know that, pain, no matter its 'unbearability', is transient. Unburden or delight yourself for a while in my writings please. And all corrections, advice and opinions are welcome. Know that you are the king, queen or royal on this blog. :)

Speak loud and proud Cecilia! Changing people’s beliefs is the hardest thing in the world to do but if you keep educating people then eventually this horrible mutilation will stop. Women must be convinced that this practice does not make them beautiful or more desirable. It was started to subjugate women and take all feelings of sexual pleasure from the woman. Being cut with anything at hand then sewn up so only a small opening remains so that menstrual blood can flow then being cut or torn open by her husband is nothing more than men hurting women again and again. Its a power struggle and they have brainwashed their women into thinking this must be done.

Exactly my sentiment. I’m so glad I have many voices to back me up on this. I know many human rights activists are doing their best, but more voices need to join this train so we;ll win. Thank you Someone. Blessings.

Thank you Marissa, it is not a likeable article. When I started my cries on this, Tanveer promised to help in her little way, but it ended up being grand. Her voice resonates across the world and I’m glad for her voice. This is barbarism against humanity Marissa.
