AFIA VRS OBINIM; MY TAKE ON THEIR TASTELESS PUBLIC COMEDY

Bishop-Daniel-Obinim-7130231531_118741

Today is Sunday, a day many churches wait for monies promised in the Bible to help the poor and needy and oh to give moral lessons. This is the day I choose to analyse and say my peace on the Pastor Obinim and Valentina’s saga. So apparently, Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa popularly known as Afia Schwarzenegger, who is the host of k⊃k⊃⊃k⊃, showed a video of Bishop Obinim in prophetic action, telling his congregation (who were in a cue) their fortunes in seconds. We cannot forget our Former President Rawlings’ advice to Ghanaians to watch out for fake men of God who are here to prey on the gullible and needy in society. He, known for calling a spade a spade, mentioned a few names and apparently, Bishop Obinim’s name showed up.

Afia, we know is a comedian. I would like us to remember that in times past, comedians were the only beings allowed to criticise those in authority without sanctions. Even now, I think those who take themselves seriously will never dare take comedians to court on account of what they have said against them, no matter how derogatory. My problem is how a Man of God will call a television show host “a thing short like a monkey” on his pulpit and threaten to haunt her in her dreams, in front of his congregation during his preaching which aired on television? Aren’t men of God supposed to be pure and saintly? Yes, they are human but aren’t their behaviour supposed to be like the Christ they are emulating? Where in the Bible is it written that Jesus Christ called a human being “a thing like a monkey”?

Now I need to know what was going through the minds of the Man of God’s congregation when he said that to their hearing. How did this Man of God think discerning Ghanaians will think of his outbursts? And that brings this to mind; what is the Christian Council doing about the language of this Man of God? Aren’t there rules and regulations, checkers to check the behaviours of Men and Women of God? Well, let me pause on this and move on to Afia.

She is known for saying her mind, most of us love her for that. She’s witty and has a lovable personality, yes we know. I understand the fact that she had to react to let the man know she is not afraid of him. I know she thought she had to react to let everyone know she is not an easy target; oh, it is needed in a job like hers and temper is in all beings, but did she not go too far? A lady, no matter your comic side must know a lady when you see one. The man insulted you and not his wife. How you had to go dig into his husband’s infidelity, how you had to mention that her husband said her female organ is like a manhole, how you had to say you were better than his wife was totally uncalled for. I believe in fair fighting. We know Florence Obinim, though there are many rumours and known bad behaviour surrounding her husband, we know that she has been clean, singing her gospel songs.

And now I ask the Christians; what is the criteria for being a bishop? If a man of God promises to haunt a fellow human being in her sleep, does that make the person powerful or voodoo? Which part of the Bible says “haunt those who speak ill of you in their sleep”? I know the “touch not my anointed and do my prophet no harm” part, but I’ve never heard of this before. Ghanaians must wake up, wash their faces with clean water, wear huge spectacles, if that will enhance their visions and be able to tell good prophets from bad ones. I am not saying Prophet Obinim is a bad prophet, I just want us to discern, with our intellectual properties and know the difference between some of these self imposed prophets and fetish priests. No matter our needs, subjecting ourselves to be taken advantage of sink us too low.

I must end by saying that God is the ultimate religion. If you really need something to hold on to, holding on to the knowledge that God does not belong to one human but to all is the ultimate. God is my potent medicine, my known religion and my ultimate help, for those confused, you might need to try my style.

Just a simple Ghanaian trying to find the best in our society. I may be fun, I may be interesting, I may be funny, I may even be foolish or intelligent, but it is all based on the mood in which you find yourself. I believe our minds make us who we are. Know that, pain, no matter its 'unbearability', is transient. Unburden or delight yourself for a while in my writings please. And all corrections, advice and opinions are welcome. Know that you are the king, queen or royal on this blog. :)

Cecilia,
I do not know of the specific people you name but this type of scenario is played out again and again across the globe. Humans fail ALL THE TIME and unfortunately, some of those humans profess to be speaking for God. No where in scripture does it say that one person’s spirit can haunt another. Humans do not possess such power and nor should they drag God into their babbling. You are right to be angry and disgusted by this display. God gave us hearts and minds; therefore, we should always use them both without excluding one over the other.

Dear Tina, you’re so right. This issue went so viral, I think it still is, that almost everyone in Ghana knows about it. They used videos for their exchange. Now, the hostess says the man of God proposed to her and she declined, so when she spoke about the fact that our former president mentioned him as a false prophet, he used that opportunity to humiliate her in public. Tina, I know this prophet behaved out of turns. This hostess even talks about herself in the third person when she errs, she is a comic character and so must not be taken seriously at all, if anything, her satirical programme must be learnt from but this man had to take her on on national television and his congregation was amused! Global, yes, but I know in Ghana it has exceeded its limit. It’s so sad.

Hmmm pastor paaa? Can he create a human? He deserved it cus it is the right time for her woman to quit dis marriage seriously, the woman is innocent but his so called husband is disgracing her seriously….

Yes, poor Florence. Well breaking marriage vows is not easy. I would rather not. When I do get married, I always say no matter what, I won’t break my marriage. It is too sacred so if she feels secured, I think staying married to him is alright.

Francis dear, “adwobr3w” Don’t give yourself headaches because of this. Let God deal with this issue by opening eyes. Maybe, this is one of the ways by which He is doing it. Time is gold right now.

Wow! I’ve heard some of these but I thought they were just rumours. The bad behaviours, watched part of his interview with Deloris Frimpong Manso where he accepted he was tempted into fornication. Some people must accept being fetish and live freely instead of being in the heated garments of Jesus.

This shows that what our former president said is true, the holy book said we shouldn’t judge though but his reactions tells us all.

I feel like God is the only one I speak and listen to. A prophet should speak the word of God, and not let media or people pull him from those words by making people fearful of what he says. If you believe in a prophet, then that’s fine. But if a prophet feels the need to silence people with a different view of them, then that’s a man with a ego. Just my opinion don’t. Like your post though!

Your opinion is welcome. I had to post this because the media and social media are going crazy over this issue in Ghana. The insults flying from prophet to hostess are really serious. Thanks for your voice, God is all really.

This God like person is a man first before he became God like. Hence he speaks from his man side mind. The powers to be mite not want his God like person to be part of there purpose. It’s all to sad to think that any of this has a place in worship but nevertheless it seems to be. In this day of age that we live in the waters are murky and religion takes a back seat inside of being a driving force. But this life I am sad to say. That’s why there’s a way to change the channel to make it less intrusive. The problem won’t go away but it will play less a part
