You looked warm
And I loved your charm
Your colour
Your fragrance
Your hope
And your zeal to battle the cold
And run into your arms
Suspecting nothing
Then I felt the cold
Started shivering
Felt the ice
Started dying
In your warm embrace
Then I realised
That you are the blanket with holes
Realised too late

A blanket is not my only warmth. My body does what it wants to do whether l cover it or not. It’s my mind that must be warm first before my body. Only then does the blanket work to keep me warm.

This goes deep, I love how the realization creeps up on the reader too.

Sometimes it’s until we try to use the blanket do we realize that it has holes. Wonderful poem, Cecelia. π
