Who preaches to the preacher
When he needs preaching?
Who motivates the motivator
When he needs motivation
Who tends to the only doctor
When he is chronically ill?
Who will hold the hands
Of the holder?
I stretch my hands
As I close my eyes
Picturing God
And asking who gods over Him
When he needs counselling.

The refusal of some preachers (who are not little gods) to seek counsel from persons trained to help them is a huge problem. My father, a preacher, thought all he needed to do was talk with God–who made everything right. Thus absolving my father of dealing with harsh realities of his personal life and the lives of those for whom he bore responsibility (like me, his daughter). No apologies. No begging forgiveness. No admissions of wrongdoing. Tragic. No, the preacher is not God. And God does not absolve the preacher of his or her humanity. Even God couldn’t change this world with stooping/rising to the occasion of joining it and accepting responsibility as a human being. Living as we do. Not in some exalted enthronement surrounded by privilege and patrons.
Oh my. I didn’t mean to get carried away. Or maybe I did. Great poem, Cecelia!

True, and I feel your pain Elouise. This humanity aspect happens to be the part of womanising. Actually I wrote this for priests who cannot date or marry. A father who hides his responsibilities in prayer is a nightmare for children and loved ones. May you forgive him and have peace. Love and blessings.

Questions of this sort don’t have an answer. Yet it’s good to at least question. I once asked the doctor, “who you go to when you are sick?”, to this day I’ve not been answered. These are the questions that make you want to go to Mmmmmmm……
