I used to envy the young
Who seemed so strong
And looked like beauty belong
Until their future struggles hit a ding dong
II
Most are yet to meet many more heartbreaks
And burn on uncertainty’s stakes
Many are yet to, from their infeasible dreams wake
And sit in the pain as failure in their bakeries bake
Some are yet to act hollow and fake
But here I am, done with embracing my mistakes
III
There are no bees suckilng painfully on my nectar
There is no pressure to force straighten my structure
There are many ways to lay off my wrinkling architecture
I have almost finished with nursing many a fracture
And care not about appearances gestures
I know completely my emotions hectares
Oh heck, I can give them many of life’s lectures
And add many many experience pictures
IV
And so I pity their excitement
Knowing few will live to treasure its commitment
Oh I feel sad for their adorement
Knowing none will keep any at age’s increment
Oh I hate their future dilemma and choices in installment
Knowing many will make choices never to service their appeasement
I dislike their future disappointments
Knowing the sharp machetes they hold to cut short their commitments
V
And so I look at their bubbly selves
And care not for my group’s soon to be on shelves
I look at their sneers
And care not for their jeers
For I know I’ve stepped on many of my gears
And have raised glasses in many cheers
So I look on them with pity even as they act like celebrities
Those youngsters yet to taste life’s shockable knitty gritties

Superb! True! Something to make me (and you!) feel better when we look into the mirror–and have no desire to go back to our various youthful la-la lands! π I, too, am glad to see you’re still writing. Thank you!

Quite surprising how one, as young as you, has captured such deep thoughts, my Dear Ceci! π
