KNOW YOUR FRIENDS

Some friends send messages of care in daylight
But tend to bend their actions into a bite
Which lends its root to your failure or death

Potatoes are like tomatoes
…but grow not well together
Peppers are as edible as beans
…but grow not well together
Salt is sweet but can act like poison to kill plants
Every plant has its affable neighbour

III
So learn to fend for yourself
…by choosing friends who will sincerely defend
Learn to grow you
…by surrounding you with friends who can your good commend
Learn to dissociate yourself from friends who can your greater self end
Let all plants meet in the saucepan
…but grow to their fullest apart
If their togetherness will hinder their growth
Since all are needed to make whole
…dishes of life
