UNFEELING (TANKA)

EYE OF THE LORD

I

Lightnings strike and bright

Thunders of  stomachs rumble

Drought mouths fight the breeze

As their eyes rain cats and dogs

Hunger gnaws at their in-beings

II

Weakness is their king

A look; all it takes to know

But none seems to see

Those who see, follow strict rules

Hunger must bite lazy hands

III

Can’t rules be bended

Where tiny hands are concerned?

Lord God have mercy!

Can’t collateral be age?

Some chests surely have no hearts

IV

Man-made machines drive

Their cause and numbs their feeling

Mercy! Mercy! Please work hard

Work hard to arrest these hearts

And let these life virgins be

INSATIABLE (HAIKU)

glutton

I

It came visiting

Looking fragile and harmless

In quiet heelless shoes

II

None gave it a thought

As it built its strong mansion

But now we all see

III

Why do we all see?

Because many disappear

Whenever it eats

IV

Its meals were first dark

Darkness tried fleeing but failed

As light watched perturbed

V

Some light gave a chase

It ate them all without thought

Conquering rubber

VI

Darn mobility!

It trails many in hunting

Increasing its range

VII

Insatiable now,

Its fire still remains unquenched

So we flee in vain

Amoafowaa Sefa Cecilia (c) 2014

HARMONY

harmony

Gravels

Roots

Sand

Stones

Roots

Worms

Water

Makes the earth

One out

And there’s chaos

So are the lives we live

Let all heads and hearts be one

For our living perfection

Amoafowaa Sefa Cecilia (c) 2014

CUPID’S CHANNEL

LOVE

In Cupid’s heat

The drums of hearts beat

As fluttering takes a seat

And daydreams are filmed neat

II

In Cupid’s time

Heartbeats chime

And rhythms rhyme

As equal voices mime

III

We were there

There where there was care

Care which was rare

Rare until it turned to dare

IV

Now it is a fight

Found in everything slight

Slight which could’ve been made light

Light for our world to be bright

V

I wish time will turn

As killers of passions burn

So we’ll learn

To keep what we yearn

VI

But regrets have only a channel

One way through a panel

Of thorns and no backward channel

God of old, should have told us about the theory of Cupid’s channel.

Amoafowaa Sefa Cecilia (c) 2014

ODD

wind

Loving the warmth

Hating its burns

Loving the cold

Hating its freeze

Loving the air

Hating fierce winds

Loving the sea

Hating tsunamis

Loving the land

Fearing earthquakes

Loving to live

Hating to die

We always, always want more

Way more than there really is

So satisfaction exists only in name

Amoafowaa Sefa Cecilia (c) 2014

LAND OF MY DREAMS

Path Of Nightmares

I’m in bed

But not in bed

I’m in the bed of thoughts

Lying on the blanket of fear

And wrapped with the cloth of future loss

All working with darkness of nightmares

To throw me into a bottomless pit of  failure

II

Why do I walk in sleep?

Why do I run in sleep?

Why do I weep in sleep?

Why do I, like a lost sheep,

Bleat at the pain of unfair whips in sleep?

Why can’t I be a dove in sleep?

Why can’t I have peace in sleep?

III

This land of my dreams

Filled with screams

Filled with enemy beams

Crying to wounds with no soothing creams

And looking into eyes of enemy teams

A painful world it seems

A world of dreams with screams

IV

How can a little mind have such lands?

So vast with countless bands?

So spacious with many hands?

So fertile with countless trees?

So cloudy with chaotic rains and dooming fires?

So trappy with many traps?

So litigatory with many courts of shame?

Yet a run of wakefulness shows its little place of pillow, scary!

Amoafowaa Sefa Cecilia (c) 2014

WAITING?

lonely

Here, I wait

Like a rooted stone

Here, I wait

For your grand return

Here I wait,

Waiting in anxiety

Will you,

Like the loyal knight return?

Will you

Like the diligent knight dig me out on your return?

Will you

Like the loving knight wash me clean after digging?

Will you

Like the perfect builder, make me a corner stone after digging?

Will you?

I ask again, will you?

If you will,

Please set my heart at ease as I wait

And I will wait

In anticipation but with freedom of mind and an open heart

SAUCY STEW

stew simmering

Simmering stew stands smiling

Sending sweet scents

Scents sent as swords to silence stomachs

Stomachs scattered by scanty scoops of cereals

Scudding surreptitiously in outstanding signals

Sealing sadness like sexy serpents to unsuspecting stomachs

Stomachs seriously searching for strength to save

Searching seriously for a savior who comes with scents

Silly scoundrel! You simmering stew!

Sending signals which shatters the sane

While sitting soft spoken in a shaded sealed shade

Like a shiny diamond in the dark

Save the suffering!

Stop your scents!

Taunt not the haunted

PET TURNED HAUNTER

Haunted

His pet

Turned into his haunter

Haunting him at his vulnerable best

Turning his laughter into fright

His pet

Who was a cat

Turned into a lioness

And showed its hunger to him

Now he yearns not for it

He yearns for it to die

And it yearns to make a meal out of him

Funny, how the pet haunts its master

BUBBLES

BUBBLES

If seas, like blanket, fold

And trees are tied in a bundle

And plants hold hands in shrubbing

Where will humans be?

If the land, like cloth folds

And the sky shatters into pieces

And darkness assumes its original position

Where will humans be?

Bubbles, that’s what we are

Beings are bubbles bubbling

Bubbling beautifully with the air

The same air which bursts our bubbles

SHADOWS

couple-shadow

Shadows

Merge in shadows unmatched

Shadows which swallow shadows

How can they be seen?

Lights

Merge in lights unmatched

Lights which swallow lights

How can they be seen?

Agree

And let our shadows give their marks

Standing visibly in togetherness

So we can each be seen

Agree

And let our lights battle separate darkness

Shining brightly in conformity

So we can each be seen

Laughter

Will be the sounds which like a messenger

Will send the messages of happiness from our camp

For all ears to hear, legs to run to us and eyes to see

HEAR THE CHILDREN WEEP

eye of the lord orphanage

A sponge for many bodies

A room for countless beings

Tea without milk

Fetched with fingers like soup

None waits for the train moves

And the latecomer is left hungry

No toothbrushes because none can afford

They are the children of the present

Unfortunate to have been left by their mothers

Unfortunate to have been thrown away

Unfortunate to have their mothers answer their calls of fate

Their classes are smoke’s den

Their classrooms, sand’s territory

Their pomade happens to be shea

Which sits in a cup

See them sleep with no age measure

As young ones pee on the old

Who but God keeps their hearts?

Sad how they smile through it all

As watchers cry tears of blood

Amoafowaa Sefa Cecilia (c) 2014

(Wrote this after watching the children of the Eye of the Lord Orphanage and how they lived. This piece was written amidst tears. I could not share it then, but I’m sharing it now. Let all who can help get in touch with Utv and help)

PERCEIVED PERFECTION

perfection

In perfect’s perfection

Lies hidden flawless flaws

In the safest safety

Lies the hidden danger

In the loudest laughter

Lies the saddest sorrow

In the deep widest sea

Lie loud crying rivers

They cover them well

Making sure they’re tight

And will never fall

Only the knowing survives

This cold housing heat

PLEADING FOR SOME TIME OFF

Thank you to all those who visit my blog, I am truly humbled and you don’t know how happy you make me when I see traces of your visit in my stats. Blessings to all of you. Due to some forces beyond my control, I need some time to sort myself out for a while. A week or maybe two. Please do pardon my absence. I leave you with this:

broken-wings

BROKEN WINGS

When the wings of the bird breaks

It gets rooted and aches

Seeing all its peers fly

Opens the gates of its eyes to cry

But a voice

Like noise

Reminds it of healing

Restful healing

Healing which will take it to the sky

And it sighs

As it watches the beings in the sky display

All it must do now is to hope to join the play

Amoafowaa Sefa Cecilia (c) 2014

MEDDLESOME HAIR

HAIR

I wish none had hair

Then all could share the rubrics of the fair

Heads;

Round

Pointed

Oblong

Will battle

And mamas will battle

To showcase their handiworks

From birth till cartilages turn bones

Then beauty will be real art

And long silkies,

Beautiful bushes

Short and long

Whatever colour

Will have no voice in beauty

REST IN SERVICE

HUMAN MACHINES

Machines

That’s what we are

We work

And work

Some servicing with affluence

Others with water

Others with sand

But like those with water and sand

The affluent servers break down

Maybe without mouths

That’s their way of saying

They need rest

And a rest never hurts

BONSU EEEEEEEE

hearts

Bonsu eeeeeeee

Please bring the huge drum

Akosua wants to drown herself in tears

Because her pig has left her to marry some dirt

I need her tears to fill the drum

So I can help her bathe when she heeds to the call of fatigue

There are so many neat animals

Animals aiming to be your pet

So if you want to die in tears

Please do continue with the tears

Cry a barrel

Cry a drum

And let us join it like a river to the sea

So the whole world will know your feat

Of crying for a pig who loves its dirt

Now, don’t look at me

Please go on and cry

THE BLANKET WITH SECRET HOLES

blankets

You looked warm

And I loved your charm

Your colour

Your fragrance

Your hope

And your zeal to battle the cold

And run into your arms

Suspecting nothing

Then I felt the cold

Started shivering

Felt the ice

Started dying

In your warm embrace

Then I realised

That you are the blanket with holes

Realised too late

SPANK NOT THAT SPINE

spine

I

That spine

Is not a swine

Treat it fine

And it’ll do you fine

II

Sitting and bending

Lying, twisting and not exercising

Being in one sitting

Feeling it hurting without caring

III

Just know one thing

It does no flings

Once it is hurt beyond repairs

Its breakage is your breakage, yes, you have that share

Amoafowaa Sefa Cecilia (c) 2014

(Today is world spine day, treat your spine with care, it holds your body, be safe)

WHEN THE LEAVES LEAVE

leaves-in-the-wind

When the leaves leave

The fans will not fan

The winds will wind and wind

But will find no sky toys

And will have to make do with down rooters

Who will never be pawns

In their playfulness

Dust may do

But won’t the wind get bored playing with just one?

Just watch

Play the leaves

Let them leave

And let’s see who will suffer the most

The players on two feet

The wind

Or the left leaves

TAKE ME TO THE KOKO RIVER

Hausa koko joint

Take me there

To the big bowl where dead, crashed and boiled millet river lie

With dead roasted ground-nuts tied in heated rubbers as its trees

And debris of dead squeezed sugar cane rest in smaller bowls

Ready to be extinct in the waters of koko

I, like the others, want to taste their sorry remains

And feel superior that they help me grow

I’ll add that flour, from which the soul of corn or wheat cries

And I won’t feel sorry that together with its peers,

They’ve been under heat that no human can stand

It will be better if smashed and grounded beans are crying in hot oil

They too can fill my taste buds with delight

I am filling me with the weak to my restful hole

Please take me there

There are no judges

And I bet anyone knows or remembers those whose lives

They are blessing themselves with

Take me there to get stuffed

Porridge they call it

I’ll eat their corpses without having any conscience problem

BREAK NO SORRY BREAKERS (HAIKU)

images

I

The same safe canoe

Which gently took you to sea

Can also drown you

II

The pot caretaker

Can also be pot breaker

A famous saying

III

So what? She broke pots

Know she gave the tendering hand

And realize that much

IV

We are fallible

She may be greatly at fault

But you are no saint

IV

Break no breakers

They may be broken in thought

And that is no joke

Amoafowaa Sefa Cecilia (c) 2014

BE IN TIME

Time

Hear the world’s bell chime

And the world’s air rhyme

See many a  crime

With payment of no dime

See the world as lime

And do goodness mime

Now know your prime

Then you can use your time

In time

Amoafowaa Sefa Cecilia (c) 2014

THINK OF ME

poverty

Think of me

Me who sleeps

Sleeps in filth

Filth which reeks pain

Pain which kills

Kills innocent souls

Souls which help

Help in shaping this world

World of chaos

Chaos which makes way

Way for more suffering

Suffering of sadness

Sadness which kills

Kills the soul

Soul which leads

Leads to the spirit

Spirit of the ancestors

Amoafowaa Sefa Cecilia (c) 2014

CRAVING FOR CONFUSION

confusion

I

We crave for confusion

Why do I say so?

The white craves blackness

The black craves whiteness

And so we complain to the air

See the white talking in creole

Or is it in blackness?

And see many claiming superiority

Probably because of lack of self confidence of their existence

Now see the blacks

Bleaching their skin

Throwing away the melanin many are craving for

See them craving for rosy cheeks

Which fits them not

And wearing long weaves

Making caricatures of themselves

And crying for equality

As though they seem to think they are not humans

II

As if that is not enough

We now crave for things of animals

Animal claws

Animal eye colours

And we crave for the earth’s

Golden teeth

Silver teeth

III

The creator should have made us so equal

In height

Body

In facial

In colour

So we will always strive to see

Who is who

Because we crave confusion

So confusion we should have gotten

STANDING FOR ALL (A PRAYER)

PRAYER

I

I live to sin

A not so proud of trademark

As much as possible, please prompt me

Lightning my path for me to  clearly see

II

There are the needs

And there are the wants

Please help my needs

And be graceful with my wants

III

There are the lovers

There are the loathers

There are the carers

And there are those who’ll pay for my extinction

IV

Bless my lovers and carers

Change my loathers or haters and bless them

Occupy their thoughts with fruitful activities

So they’ll forget about their hatred for me

V

I step on toes

Many step on my toes

Please help me see good toes

And heal bad toes even if mine is part

V

If there is a thing

That I covet

Help me remember the world in the coffin

And know those things mean nothing there

VI

With every compounding problem

Please be my master

Let my thoughts be your computer memory

And delete every information which weighs me down

VII

Fill me with laughter

Fill me with joy

And as I stand for all

Hear the prayer of the human race

THE STARS GLOW

BLACK STARS OF GHANA

They charm us to sleep,

With cheers and happiness,

The crooked lines of disappointments

Have been straightened to glow,

A rise

A fall

A rise

Another rise

And a conquering

Three is to one

Here the Black Stars glow

Charming us into the night

Into happiness

Pride

And sound sleep

Amoafowaa Sefa Cecilia (c) 2014

(Inspired by the Black Stars of Ghana’s win against Guinea today, the 15 of October 2014 upon the request of Bilobi Delphina Jentina)

CHARMING YOU TO SLEEP

RELAX

A shining light beckons

Go, go, go

Step into its realm

And dream

It is not sleep that beckons

It is your angel

Calling in the sweetest voice

With the best of intentions

Intentions of protection

Sleep and let thoughts weep

For the angels rise in defence

They fan and dote on you

So there is no cause for alarm

Be free and let creepies seep through the pores of nightmares

You are a superhuman

Beyond your problems

And dearly loved by your angels

You might not know or see them

But they, more than humans, root for you

WILL THE POOR BE SAVED

hunger in Africa

Will the poor be saved?

No! No! No! And No!

They will never be saved

No matter their struggles

Most will fall at the hands of poverty

Because they are businesses

Businesses of some unscrupulous dudes

Who profit at their sufferings

And revel in their misery

The dirtier the better

The more pathetic, the richer they become

Children try to chase hunger in their stomachs

And fail miserably

While sweats for their keep are boiled and drunk by the satisfied

O ye helpers of the destitute from afar!

Please hear my pathetic pleas

See, touch and heal the poor

Never throw your sweats on dirty foams

A word to the wise…

Amoafowaa Sefa Cecilia (c) 2014

CRASH OR STOP

Group-Ollas-2a

Crashers of nuts

Who crash not their seeds

Water pourers

Who break not the pots

Hear this sound

From a clever mind

If you crash the nuts

Do crash their seeds

If you pour the water

Do crash the pots

Leaving these tells of tales

Of your dumbness of dumbness

If you can’t crash their seeds and pots

Don’t crash at all

And if my language still doesn’t click

I’ll say it plain

If you can’t kill the soul

Don’t touch the body

Amoafowaa Sefa Cecilia (c) 2014

CHANGE IN NEGATIVITY

REBEL

Bang! Bang!

Chang! Chang!

Kunklong! Kunklong!

Splash! Splash!

Swish

What is there?

Water hold drums

Food hold bowls

Ground sits on the sofa

While the table sits crossed legged on the television

What is going on?

“Things fall apart

The centre cannot hold”

A look through the windows

Humans have developed wings and are flying

The old order is changing

Virtues have turned vices

Vices have turned virtues

So everything rebels

I too, probably will

Amoafowaa Sefa Cecilia (c) 2014

WHEN THE NEEDED FAIL

PEACE

I

When words fail the poet

And drummers’ hands are severed

When songstresses’ voice fail

And the teachers lose their memories

Problems walk on countless feet

II

When hunters lose their swiftness and tools

And cooks lose their hands and taste-buds

And masters become servants

And soldiers lose their strength

Problems walk on countless feet

III

Let the keepers keep their keeps

And the needers get their needs

And the seekers find what they seek

Problems will have no legs

And peace will be in vogue

Amoafowaa Sefa Cecilia (c) 2014

STANDING ON THE FEET OF FLOATING

drowning

Sinking deep in the stormy sea

Alone in the vast, no stick to see

I clutch at my fist

To gain a seat

I see my legs on floating feet

Left, right, up and down

My eyes can see

Only the waters of the sea

Yelling of pain

Noise of chaos

Frightening roars

As war breaks through the gates of my ears

Into the halls of my thoughts

No peace within

Fear without

A man within

A woman without

A woman drowning

Drowning in the deep sea

With none to help

Not even a nosy straw

I don’t look down

If I’ll be swallowed

I need not see it

I might drown

I might live

But now I stand

On the feet of floating

Amoafowaa Sefa Cecilia (c) 2014

WHIRL IN THE WHIRLWIND

whirlwind

I

Dust, winds, form whirlwinds

Which whirls and blocks your cool path

And laughs at your trials

II

You lose your balance

Like a paper in their midst

They smile in content

III

Close your eyes and wind

Dance to their own tune and see

Their muscles will tear

IV

Dust and winds will fight

Leaving your path as it was

Leaving you winner

Amoafowaa Sefa Cecilia (c) 2014

DON’T MESS WITH FOCUS

monster-in-the-closet

Dreadful dreams

Stir horror’s nest

Real they seem

Unreal they seem

The pot of thoughts

Is stirred by fear

The heat of reality

Boils and cooks

Thoughts wander far from legs

Danger dens are far from seen

Now dreadful dreams do nothing

Dreadful thoughts kill the soul

Amoafowaa Sefa Cecilia (c) 2014

(MY THOUGHTS: Thoughts of fear after bad dreams kill more that the dreams themselves. You being dejected, thinking of the worst interfere’s with your focus, and that can be chaotic. Shed all horrible dreams and be focused. Chances are, they might not even be real.)

EMPTY THE BAGGAGE

i_felt_a_funeral_in_my_brain_by_papayatheshark-d3cbkh5

I

A mouth saw your face

Attracted your eyes

And placed a litter in your thought’s drum

II

An eye met your eyes

Held it

And sent disdain into your thought’s drum

III

A voice sought your ears

Found it

And threw filth into your thought’s drum

IV

Some hand worked with a face

Came straight and fought your cheeks

And sent pain into your thought’s drum

V

Love left your world, now it is filled

And overflowing

And you let it flow for long

VI

Please empty the drum

Litters of hurt and pain

Needs no place in your thought’s drum

VI

They are filth

Which must be emptied at every dropping

For positivity to have a place to rule

A HARMLESS WALL GECKO

wall gecko

I

I am a wall gecko

A harmless wall gecko

Whose life is seen

Even on screens

II

I am no chameleon

I can’t be a chameleon

Whose body mirrors

Its foes and friends

III

With wriggles to hide

Have pity on me

I don’t aim to hurt

Or kill a being

IV

I’m in your house

Where it’s safe to be

My place is on walls

And not in your bowls

V

If you see me in a bowl

Then I’ve lost my way

Don’t take my life

Please help me home

HAUNTED HELL

DARKNESS

I

When darkness falls

I fear the weather’s calls

Calls into a world you made

To give you the perfect shade

To taunt me with your memories

II

In your world,

I am your pawn of child

I do what you want and you play me

Everyone watches that video, but me

Until you yourself get me a replay

III

It’s always the same replay

Night after night only at the comfort of your dark world

A world you formed in my thoughts

How unfair!

And I end up in tears

IV

This night, I plead

I plead not with you

But with a force greater than you

To move your dark world from my thoughts

So I can enter the dark like haunt-less being for once

A FLOWER WITH THORNS

Flower_between_thorns_by_ASHLEIGH1993

I

Do not be so scared

Come closer, closer to this flower

Look keenly, very keenly and touch the safest part

And I’ll adorn you with forever happiness

II

I do have thorns

I do have scary, frightening looking thorns

Thorns which sit on my skin to protect

And not to harm, so keenly look before touching

III

When you touch with good intentions

I promise these thorns will be smooth

So smooth my charm will protect

Protect you who dwells with me

IV

So do not look scared

Just stand and read through my thorns

And touch the safest spot with purity

And I’m yours, yours forever

YACHT YONDER

YACTCH

I

Real remedies resonate after right race

Leaning lame like a lean lizard

Will win wretchedness and wage your own war

Hear heat’s humming and hit in habit

Eons can erode into eons but it’ll earn

II

Fear of failure frightens frivolously

Get up, go, grow, give to this game

Jeers, jabbers, jacks for you are jackasses’ jackets

Turn tiring troubles tactfully to taste

You’re your  yachtsman, yacht yonder to your yield.

TORN AND BRUISED

images (5)

She sat on her heart

Like an oldly used torn mat

And tried to be pretty

II

Hurt like angry waves

Broke out of  her heart’s locked gate

Flooding her sad world

III

The sweet birds watching

Her beauty, flew far away

Watching and curious

IV

Why would she lie thus?

Pretending to have new heart

While she sat on old?

V

She horribly submerged

Until a bull dog saved her

And put her to use

VI

Those who tore her heart

And birds who left her to drown

She tipped in diary

VII

She kicked, slapped, hurt, killed

And now her torn heart beyond

Repairs, cries empty

A CHAOTIC DREAM

EARTH IN RUINS

I

I had a dream

A dream with God as Chair

Humans screamed their disgust

Plants and trees screamed their pain

Animals screamed life’s unfairness

The earth kept mute

II

Every stakeholder

Looked in earth’s direction

And so earth had no choice but to give a speech

“I suffer, I give and I take

And the cycle continues

What right has anyone to judge me?”

III

Humans said:

“We are born and we have to live

So we turn to the plants”

IV

Plants and trees echo:

“Sadly”

V

Earth retorts:

“And plants and trees

Are what I give

Even the seas and rivers sit on me”

VI

Humans continued:

“Even so

Why must we suffer

In death and sicknesses?”

VII

Earth said:

“Because nothing is for free

What you take you must replace

If you dig  me like a savage

For your own gain

You must enter at last

To replenish and help feed others”

VIII

God asked what humans wanted

“Immortality”

Was their answer in one voice

IX

Plants and trees sing:

“Freedom to live”

X

The seas which have been quiet all along said:

“Some peace and quiet

And freedom of sea animals to live

Without fear of humans or their fellow sea livers”

XI

Earth says:

“Then none should henceforth step on me

Sit on me nor dig me

Let me lie in peace”

XII

All the others shout:

“Impossible!”

XIII

God said:

“This cannot be

So look for other solutions”

XIV

But before He finished

War had broken

The earth shook in fury

The seas and rivers splashed everywhere

The trees shouted horrified

Humans shouted for help

Animals tried to clutch on anything

God leaves through the sky

And I struggled through sand, water, animals and fear

Into wakefulness
